A Smart Solution for Ulster Rugby Club

The Ravenhill Ulster Rugby Club

The major redevelopment of the rugby ground in Belfast has incorporated 250 sheets of 18mm SMARTPLY OSB3 boards. The strong sustainable OSB3 has been utilised during the reconstruction of The Ravenhill Ulster Rugby Club to provide a temporary hoarding cover for the site. SMARTPLY provided the solution for practicality and durability.

Owned by the Irish Rugby Football Union, located in South East Belfast, The Ravenhill Ulster Rugby Club will see three new stands built at the ground in a phased approach to accommodate a capacity rise from 11,400 to 18,000. With the increased number of spectators that the new-look ground will be able to hold, Ravenhill will be capable of hosting a RaboDirect PRO12 Final or a Heineken Cup Quarter Final.

SMARTPLY OSB3, the highly engineered wood-based structural panel that is designed for use in humid conditions, which offered an ideal, panel material for high performance, durability and protection. “We supplied SMARTPLY OSB3 for the challenging project due to its highly durable characteristic,” explains Lawrence Murdock, Manager at Peterwoods Builders Merchants, “The FSC certified boards offered a host of benefits compared to traditional plywood, not least environmental reassurance, combined with the convenience and versatility of SMARTPLY OSB3. The material provides a sustainable panel that is assessed by the BBA for its suitability in outdoor applications and significantly humid environments. This will enable the rugby club to deliver an outdoor athletic area that will stand the test of time.”
