Ground breaking MDF, MEDITE TRICOYA, has recently been utilised by AJ Joinery to complete a high-end refurbishment project in central London, close to Russell Square.
The Colonnades, a range of five converted Georgian mews houses that sit in one of London’s most established residential areas, has incorporated MEDITE TRICOYA into the construction of the properties’ entrance door panels.
MEDITE TRICOYA was specified by AJ Joinery due to its durability, longevity and a unique characteristic that means it is not affected by water absorption, like other wood-based construction materials. During the manufacturing process V grooves were incorporated into the panels to match the existing doors. The panels were primed and painted to complete the desired aesthetics.
MEDITE TRICOYA benefits from the latest advancements in acetylation technology that naturally alters the wood’s chemical structure so that water absorption does not affect it. The sustainable FSC certified MDF panel, which has been assessed by the BBA for its suitability in outdoor applications and significantly wet environments, offered the ideal solution for the project.
“We required a product that would be extremely weatherproof and deliver dependable performance in a permanent exterior application, explained Lee Sheppard from AJ Joinery. “We specified MEDITE TRICOYA as we felt confident that, with a 50-year material guarantee, the client would be happy with the quality of the panel. We now use MEDITE TRICOYA on all external painted applications, because of the benefits it provides compared to other wood products.”
Peter Clifton, MEDITE TRICOYA Product Manager says: “MEDITE TRICOYA has been tested by the BRE, to EN350-2 of 1, or ‘very durable’; this is the equivalent to teak and even more durable than oak. BRE also tested the creep and duration performance as well as its resistance to weathering. These characteristics make MEDITE TRICOYA ideal for use in outdoor applications and give professional joiners the peace of mind they need.”
