The Minister of State for Housing, Esther McVey, has stated in her latest report that increasing the use of MMC (Modern Methods of Construction) won’t just help to provide the 300,000 new homes the government believe is required by 2020, but may also unlock a range of benefits including lower cost, if done properly at scale.

In order to provide this efficient build style of offsite manufacturing, manufacturers should also be looking to provide quick, safe and sustainable materials to assist in the production of these new homes.

In this new age of efficiency, innovative timber panel manufacturers, MEDITE SMARTPLY, is one such company that is up to the task ahead.

Its latest product innovation, PATTRESS PLUS, has been designed to provide structure and support in the fastest manner possible, while also reducing power tools and dust on (or off) site to increase safety.

Ideal for offsite manufacturers or modular home builders, PATTRESS PLUS panels feature a continuous recess along one side that is designed to accommodate ‘C’ studs without the need to cut in slots, increasing speed of installation.

This key design feature means that each panel sits flush against the stud flange, holding steady while it is simply screwed into place.

The finished result means a massive reduction in dust - as no cutting is required, drastically reduced noise - due to reduced need for power tools, and much less time spent cutting and installing panels which can save hours, if not days, on big installations.

PATTRESS PLUS panels are available in thicknesses of 15mm or 18mm, widths of 397mm or 597mm (to fit 400mm and 600mm stud centres), and lengths of 1250mm or 2397mm, in line with leading plasterboard partition specifications.

“PATTRESS PLUS panels have been created to meet a clear market need. When speaking to contractors dealing with plasterboard partitions, it became clear that installing pattressing is one big headache,” says Richard Allen, MEDITE SMARTPLY UK Sales Director.

“We found that the current pattress boards require cutting on site, which creates large amounts of dust and noise, that in turn creates additional health and safety risk, plus the use of additional metalwork and fixings adding time and complexity, all resulting in extended installation times. PATTRESS PLUS avoids all of that - it’s an offsite manufacturer’s dream.”
