The Royal Artillery Barracks, located on the edge of Woolwich Common in London, will provide a stunning backdrop for a temporary venue which will host the Shooting, Paralympic Shooting and Paralympic Archery events at London 2012 Olympics.
Panthera Hoardings has been working with John Sisk & Sons on a large design and build contract at the Royal Artillery Barracks to install around 3000 metres of environmentally friendly timber hoardings. Panthera Hoarding chose SMARTPLY SiteProtect from Coillte Panel Products as, amongst its range of benefits, it meets their environmental policy and commitment to ‘actively seek supplies from environmentally aware and certified suppliers’; a theme which reflects the Olympic Delivery Authority’s aim to embed sustainability in its planning for London 2012 from the start.
The hoarding, which incorporates multiple vehicle access gates, is in place whilst the temporary site for the London Olympic shooting events is created. 36 events will be held at the Royal Artillery Barracks. Four temporary indoor ranges for Pistol and Rifle Shooting will be built, together with outdoor shotgun ranges for Trap and Skeet events, and temporary spectator grandstands will be provided at each shooting range.
SMARTPLY SiteProtect was created specifically for use in applications from temporary site hoarding through to a range of security installations. The smooth heavy-duty exterior cross-linked polymer coating provides an excellent surface for artwork, advertisements, company logos and painting. Being owned by Coillte, the Irish forestry and forest products company, SMARTPLY is able to use Coilte’s FSC certified forest resources to make their products with confidence in security of supply. The unique properties of SMARTPLY OSB have led to it being approved in the general construction sector as a sustainable alternative to plywood.
