Becca Smith and Harriet Heardman of Coillte Panel Products (MEDITE and SMARTPLY) have raised an incredible £2,800 for the Timber Trades' Benevolent Society (TTBS) by taking part in the ultra-distance London 2 Brighton Challenge.  The challenge saw the two complete a staggering 100km in just 27 hours through a mixture of running and walking.

The TTBS is a registered charity, which plays an important role by supporting those that have worked in the Timber Industry for more than 10 years. Beneficiaries are aged and retired people and their dependents, as well as younger people who have fallen ill or become severely handicapped. Regular assistance can include quarterly payments, Christmas hampers, TV Licenses, telephone rental, decorating costs, winter warmer allowances and one-off grants.

“It was great to be a part of such a good cause and raise the amount we did, especially when our original target was £1000.  In fact, we even managed to exceed our second target of £2500, which was a great achievement and so unexpected. Thinking about how much people had donated definitely helped us through the tough stages.” commented Becca.

Harriet continued, “This challenge was like nothing we had ever done before but all the training and hard work was well worth it.  This wouldn’t have been possible without all the support and encouragement from our friends, family and colleagues. Thank you to everyone that sponsored us.”

“The TTBS relies heavily on donations and without the help people like Becca and Harriet who have worked incredibly hard to achieve what they have and raise they amount the have, the work of the TTBS could not continue.  Speaking on behalf of everyone at the TTBS, we are extremely grateful for this donation,” commented TTBS National President, Malcolm Cowley.
