MEDITE TRICOYA MDF's superior dimensional stability and durability has once again come into its own, this time at the 2012 Chelsea Flower Show.
After the wettest April on record, the cold weather made this a particularly challenging year for gardeners at Chelsea. But, whilst the rain meant a muddy build, the drizzle was a welcome relief for designers from the hosepipe ban. Whilst the weather showed definite improvement over the five day show, the wet and damp conditions during set-up could have been disastrous for three garden companies using MDF in the exterior products they were featuring at Chelsea, were it not MEDITE TRICOYA.
Oxford Planters, designers and manufacturers of wooden planters, tables, chairs, benches, garden gates and pergolas, create individually handmade wooden products to order in their Oxfordshire workshop. Traditionally, their products are made with sustainably certified oak or iroko, but they are now including modified wood products Accoya and MEDITE TRICOYA in their products, and chose to feature new Accoya and MEDITE TRICOYA planters in their Chelsea exhibition this year.
Based in Suffolk, HSP Garden Buildings design, manufacture and install high quality garden structures with each carefully designed and crafted to the highest standards, and HSP's work is in demand internationally. With MEDITE TRICOYA's FSC certification, its ability to withstand changing wet or humid conditions, and the fact that it is sturdy enough to withstand the rigours of life in the garden, HSP Garden Buildings chose to use it in door and machined wall panels for a garden building at Chelsea, created for The Cutting Edge Collection.
Market leaders in bespoke garden joinery, the Garden Trellis Company based in Essex designed a garden bench in iroko, with a striking and elegant curved centrepiece made from 6mm MEDITE TRICOYA, functioning both as a feature and on which trailing and climbing plants can grow.
Named as a Kevin McCloud ‘Eco Find of the Month' in the April 2012 edition of Grand Designs Magazine, Extreme Durable MEDITE TRICOYA MDF heralds a revolution in wood-based panel products for the industrial manufacture of exterior, interior and wet applications, and marks one of the first true innovations in the wood composites industry in more than 30 years.
BRE (Building Research Establishment) has given MEDITE TRICOYA a durability class (under EN350-2) of 1, or very durable; a durability equivalent to teak and more durable than oak. BRE said that MEDITE TRICOYA could meet demands for a desired service life of 60 years when used in exterior applications and such is MEDITE's confidence in this new product that it carries a 50 year warranty.
MEDITE TRICOYA consistently delivers a reliable substrate offering excellent and unique design opportunities in exterior and wet interior applications. This industry is changing.
