SMARTPLY ToughPly Lends a Hand

A late night fire at the Eddie Rockett’s City Diner outlet in Waterford, Ireland has left the branch completely destroyed. The blaze, which engulfed the majority of the restaurant and roof, will force the premises to close until work can commence to refurbish the building. SMARTPLY's ToughPly has been utilised by local builders, David Flynn Construction, to erect boards for hoarding and ensure that the outlet is safe and secure.

SMARTPLY ToughPly, the fully certified and sustainable OSB panel was specified for the protective boards for hoarding due to the structural capabilities and durable characteristics it could provide. Manufactured in accordance with EN300, the CE marked and fully FSC approved ToughPly boards offered David Flynn Construction reliability and peace of mind.

“The only other alternative was plywood, explained David Flynn from David Flynn Construction, “However, having used SMARTPLY SiteProtect as a hoarding solution for a number of other projects, we were confident with the durability of the OSB. The SMARTPLY ToughPly panel, which is sanded and coated on both sides, allowed us to considerably save time onsite as we could directly paint on the surface without extra preparation.”

ToughPly fulfils all the legal requirements where the building regulations call for materials to be tested for durability, strength and loading in structural applications. It is also fully tested in accordance with EN 13986 and bears the CE mark to verify this
