As the first major outdoor show of the season, and the only annual event that allows visitors access to Her Majesty The Queen's private grounds at Windsor, the five-day equestrian extravaganza that is the 2012 Royal Windsor Horse Show (9th-13th May) featured over 3,000 horses and ponies despite adverse weather conditions. Held in partnership with Land Rover, the show also celebrated Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee year, with some of the acts from the Diamond Jubilee Pageant participating in the Horse Show programme.
For this prestigious event, an exhibition stand was required by Land Rover to form the Queen's plinth, and Timbmet Ltd. in Oxfordshire supplied 80 sheets of new extreme durable MEDITE TRICOYA MDF for the project. Named as a Kevin McCloud ‘Eco Find of the Month' in the April 2012 edition of Grand Designs Magazine, MEDITE TRICOYA MDF heralds a revolution in wood based panel products for exterior, interior and wet applications, and marks one of the first true innovations in the wood composites industry in more than 30 years. The acetylated MDF has superior dimensional stability and durability (even in the wettest April on record) meaning it can be used in situations and applications where wood and wood-based products would not usually be considered.
Exhibitions are usually held inside or under cover, but the maiden appearance of this large stand made from MEDITE TRICOYA was outside in the rain-sodden open air for a period of around three weeks, covering the time needed for construction, the duration of the show, and to dismantle. Despite the conditions endured, the stand sections will be able, as planned, to be reused for future shows, including the Goodwood Festival of Speed. With only occasional cosmetic repair and standard maintenance, Land Rover will be able to reuse the stands for years to come. Nick Dennis, business manager at Timbmet Ltd. said, “MEDITE TRICOYA provides our customers with piece of mind, knowing the MDF won't swell even if any damage should occur and the MDF core be exposed - which in this case was pretty likely with the mud and the weather we've had!”
Extensive performance testing carried out by the Building Research Establishment (BRE) in the UK concluded that MEDITE TRICOYA carries a durability class (under EN350-2) of 1, or very durable; a durability equivalent to teak and more durable than oak. BRE concluded that MEDITE TRICOYA could meet demands for a desired service life of 60 years when used in exterior applications. Such is the confidence of MEDITE in this new product that it carries a 50 year warranty.
