MEDITE to Showcase High Quality Timber Range at Ecobuild 2016

Innovative wood panel manufacturer, MEDITE, will be demonstrating an impressive array of products at Ecobuild 2016 which takes place from 8th to 10th March at London’s ExCeL. The wide ranging showcase includes the new high performance breathable sheathing panel, MEDITE VENT, and MEDITE PREMIER, a consistently high quality MDF panel with excellent performance characteristics.

Ecobuild 2016 is the leading conference and exhibition for UK construction and energy. MEDITE is stand sponsor for DISCOVER, a major new destination at the show. This imaginative new element is designed as Ecobuild’s central social hub showcasing one of the UK’s premier architectural awards shortlist, a national initiative to find the next eco-innovator and a platform for future materials. MEDITE PREMIER MDF is produced using superior wood refining technology and specially designed resins. Its excellent face properties make it suitable for the application of the thinnest laminates and coatings. These superb features ensured it was the ideal solution to create innovative 3D feature wall designs at the new corporate headquarters of international media company, UBM in Blackfriars, London.

The landmark development made use of the timber panels in a bespoke interior wall design on each floor. The designs incorporate 3D art, painted white and blue to create the distinctive silhouette images on each wall. MEDITE PREMIER MDF was chosen for the UBM project as its smooth surface offers a great base for painted surface finishes so a high quality finish can be easily achieved. Mark Bartlett, Managing Director of Signbox, an architectural sign specialist which was commissioned by UBM to create and install the eye-catching feature, commented: “MEDITE PREMIER was ideal for this application as the high quality and remarkable consistency of the panel means it offers great design freedom and provides the high quality result required by our clients.

The material is easy to machine, even easier to paint and performs better than other MDF products as the edges are sharp and strong even when routed. We use this panel regularly for various interior design projects and it has never let us down.” Ecobuild is a hugely popular showcase specifically aimed at architects, specifiers, contractors and end users. It includes a series stimulating seminars in which leading figures from the housing, energy and architectural sectors will offer their expert and - at times - highly controversial opinion on a host of industry - related topics. MEDITE VENT is another of the products being featured at the DISCOVER stand.

Suitable for a wide range of timber frame structures, a total of 60 sheets were used within a single - storey timber building’s external roof construction at Burlington Danes Academy, based in White City, London. Students were involved in the building process as part of the ambitious scheme to boost their self-esteem and practical skills. Combining high racking strength in excess of Category 1 requirements with excellent vapour permeability, MEDITE VENT is an ideal choice for the outer layer in ‘diffusion open’ wall and roofing applications. “Pupils were handling the boards on site so the clean, lightweight and easy to handle MEDITE VENT proved ideal for the roofing application,” said Franc Farci, Project Manager. “As an educational construction site, the project has helped to show pupils how every single building component makes a difference to the performance of the whole building fabric.” Manufactured from FSC® timber from the company’s own forests,MEDITE VENT boasts FSC Chain of Custody certification. It is also manufactured using a zero-added formaldehyde resin system and carries the CE mark in accordance with EN 13986 – making it a sustainable, reliable and high performance choice for low energy construction projects.

As a high quality and breathable structural sheathing panel, MEDITE VENT made the grade at the highly innovative Burlington Danes Academy project – delivering strength and durability as part of a textbook roofing application.
