When a series of outdoor signs at Stockwood Discovery Centre began to delaminate, Luton Cultural Trust Services opted to update its entire signage offering. To create a durable, weather resistant and attractive frame structure onto which each sign could be mounted, more than 10m2 of MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME was used to provide a perfect platform for success.
Working for client Luton Cultural Trust Services, Davison & Woods was appointed to design and manufacture 66 durable and sustainable frames to be positioned in a variety of outdoor locations throughout the Centre’s extensive grounds. With strength, long term performance and aesthetics vital to the specification, MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME fitted the bill. Davison & Woods specified four sheets of 15mm MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME to create a substrate on which the signs could be mounted. Offering superior moisture resistance and longevity compared to solid timber, Accoya wood was also used to create the main frames and complete the sustainably-sourced support structure. Les Davison, Design Manager at Davison & Woods, said: “We used MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME for its durability and stability in outdoor conditions. Although plywood is often used for this kind of work, time and exposure to the elements will cause it to delaminate – which was the problem with the existing signage we were replacing.” He adds: “With the client requiring materials that would last for a minimum of 12 years, we felt very confident that the MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME and the Accoya frames would easily achieve this timescale and beyond.” MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME is a high performance and very durable solution for external applications. Due to its enhanced natural resistance to the effects of water absorption, it also ensures there is less need for costly maintenance works and the surface will remain attractive and functional for a longer period of time. Due to the proprietary acetylation treatment process used to treat the wood elements, MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME has a naturally altered unique chemical structure. This process greatly reduces the ability of the panels to absorb water – creating a stable and extremely durable product with a 50 year guarantee, backed by independent British Board of Agrément (BBA) assessment. As high performance and very durable solutions for external applications, MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME and Accoya are ideal for challenging and aggressive environments. With plywood lacking the reliability and longevity for the project, the products’ enhanced natural resistance to water absorption proved ideal for the frame structures that will stand the test of time – whatever the weather.
