The Governor Rocks, Northern Ireland
The main feature of the new flooring at ‘The Governor Rocks’ bar-café in County Down, Northern Ireland, is a distinctive natural wood visual. SMARTPLY OSB Floor Tongue and Groove (T&G) was selected for the new flooring, to provide both a hard-wearing surface that is easy to clean and maintain, along with a smart yet rustic appearance that requires minimal surface finishing.
Simply varnished to achieve a depth of colour and to provide a smooth gloss finish, the SMARTPLY OSB T&G has been installed throughout the main bar and eating areas of ‘The Governor Rocks’ bar-café.
OSB3 T&G is actually suitable for both roofing and flooring applications, because it is a structural panel. The material is also suitable for use in humid conditions, so it will no warp or twist. In this case it provides a rigid flooring and a sturdy safe footing for the café-bar’s clientele.
The tongue and groove profile of the panel edges makes installation swift. All SMARTPLY Floor T&G panels have a sanded surface and the interlocking joints are machined to exact tolerances to ensure optimum flatness.
Panels are manufactured in accordance with EN 300 and also carry the CE mark, which is backed up by a full suite of documentation in line with the Construction Products Regulations and harmonised standard EN 13986. SMARTPLY is also zero-added formaldehyde, exceeding the current regulatory emissions requirements.
Nick Marron, National Sales Manager for Coillte Panel Products in Ireland, said: “It is great to see the natural qualities of timber and the unique visual of OSB being used as a surface finish in its own right. Often SMARTPLY T&G is specified, with an additional covering such as laminate, vinyl or carpet tiles installed over this. In the case of ‘The Governor Rocks’ bar-café the beauty of the wood in SMARTPLY has become the main focus, proving that OSB can be considered for both contemporary and traditional designs.”
