Senior Utilities Engineer

  • Locatie: SMARTPLY, Waterford

Reporting to the Engineering Manager the senior Utilities engineer will provide technical problem-solving support to the site. The role will focus on Utilities and Plant energy improvements and management through analysis, lean techniques, and capital investment with a view to meeting the business needs of today and preparing the company for needs of the future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead on improvements to reduce site energy usage and increase overall plant efficiencies. Drive excellence in the areas of energy utilization, optimizing and driving reduction programs across energy intensive process steps
  • Monitor and enforce adherence to all environmental, safety and quality protocols.
  • Support production trials, process modifications, investigation studies etc. in the development of new products.
  • Coach and mentor the maintenance and operational teams to help advance their technical knowledge as required in your area of responsibility
  • Co-ordinate Lean activities within the process
  • Develop & promote solution-based protocols arising from issues that occur in the energy plant and general utilities.
  • Provide technical leadership to large projects & major equipment upgrades.
  • Innovate to take advantage of technological advances in relevant technologies and propose necessary improvement projects in this space.
  • Support the Operation Excellence program using lean tools and techniques.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards & certifications, FSC procedures, EPA & IPPC License, Safety & SOP’s
  • Propose plant improvements, prepare capital project AFE’s and execute project to completion.

Qualification/Experience:

  • BSc Degree in relevant Engineering discipline
  • Green/Black Belt Lean certification desirable.
  • 10+ years relevant experience in a Utilities engineering role or a senior project environment.
  • Experience of technical management in a Utilities or project environment.
  • Experience using Lean tools and techniques.
  • Knowledge of steam, thermal oil, heavy rotating plant and utilities desirable.
  • Rapid problem-solving ability for a 24/7 business environment
  • Strong planning, numeracy, analytical and PC skills
  • High energy and commitment to best practice and continuous improvement
  • Awareness of SOP’s, Safety Legislation & relevant Codes of Practice
  • Understanding and experience in use of Lean Manufacturing Principles.
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic
