New materials lab in Liverpool to benefit from enhanced fire protection with SMARTPLY MAX FR B

SMARTPLY MAX FR B panels are being installed as part of a large and exciting regeneration project in the heart of Liverpool.

Retail company All the Shapes Tile & Co. are currently in the process of building a new 9000sq ft industrial style material hub for architects and interior designers. Once completed, it will be open to the public and trade customers.

James Lambert, Company Director, All the Shapes Tile & Co. “We supply high end furniture, tiles, lighting, bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchens, and much more, so we’re really excited to be bringing this new, creative hub to the city where visitors can be inspired by our unique collections, display settings and where we can encourage discussions about materials.

“At the moment, we are cladding the whole interior perimeter and building a new wall to separate the showroom and warehouse. Once it is completed, we will paint the boards and house large format tiles on them up to 3.6m tall and 1.6m wide.

“We specified SMARTPLY MAX FR B in particular because of its flame retardant properties and appearance—it has great visual appeal. So far, we have used 188 18mmm boards covering an area of 540m2.”

For applications where strength, moisture resistance and improved flame retardance are paramount, SMARTPLY MAX FR B is the ideal product. This innovative wood-based panel features a water-based, non-toxic flame retardant solution which is applied to the wood strands during manufacture. This ensures enhanced fire protection throughout the thickness of the panel, unlike post-treated panels which may only be coated on the surface.

SMARTPLY MAX FR B achieves a Reaction to Fire Classification of B-s2, d0, and Bfl-s1 (flooring) in accordance with EN13501-1 — meaning architects or contractors can easily specify the product for any building.

It is also suitable for general free-standing applications where enhanced reaction to fire is required—including fire protection during construction, site security hoarding, general joinery and exhibition stands. With its flame retardant properties and limitless design possibilities, it’s an outstanding panel for offices, museums, shops and exhibition centres.

Similarly to the rest of the SMARTPLY range, the panel is manufactured using FSC® certified timber from our own forests and features no added formaldehyde — contributing to a more sustainable and healthier building overall.

“It is an excellent product to work with that has shading variations per batch,”

James concluded. “We’re very pleased with the result so far.”

The project was due to be completed in November this year.
