It goes without saying that a roof plays an important part in the overall structure of the building. Not only does it define the appearance of a property, it also needs to protect the future occupants from the elements, providing a secure, reliable structure—whatever the finish.

So, what panels are best for roofing?

MEDITE SMARTPLY has developed three OSB panels that are ideal for roofing projects big and small: SMARTPLY ULTIMA OSB/4, SMARTPLY MAX OSB/3 and SMARTPLY MAX FR B OSB/3, which is flame retardant.

These specialised panels are lightweight and structurally sound, and can be made longer and wider by up to 2.8m wide by 7.5m long, which makes them ideal for covering extensive meterage in less time. As a result, it can also allow projects to progress faster, and with fewer workers on site if need be.

SMARTPLY MAX OSB/3 is a highly engineered, moisture resistant load bearing panel, specially designed for use in humid conditions. This makes it suitable for a wide range of construction applications such as roofing, flooring and wall sheathing.

Fire safety is extremely important in any building, and if extra protection is required, SMARTPLY MAX FR B panels is the ideal choice. As a structural, moisture resistant OSB/3 flame retardant panel, it features outstanding and reliable reaction to fire properties and is suitable for applications where strength, moisture resistance and improved flame retardance are paramount. SMARTPLY MAX FR B achieves a Reaction to Fire Classification of B-s2, d0, and Bfl-s1 (flooring) in accordance with EN13501-1.

For larger or even offsite construction projects, there is the SMARTPLY ULTIMA OSB/4. Using state of the art ContiRoll® technology, it is an extremely high-performance engineered wood panel, specially designed for the most demanding structural applications. It is available in large panel format, and suitable for large commercial projects and modern methods of construction.

Additionally, all the wood used in our OSB panels is sustainably sourced from our own sustainable forests, meaning that it will help contribute towards a building’s LEED and BREEM sustainability credentials.

Our OSB panels also feature no added formaldehyde, which not only protects installers, but also protects those who will eventually occupy the property and contributes to healthier living spaces.
