MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME brings a splash of style and substance to a residential property in Prestwick

MX DESIGN

A residential property in Prestwick, Scotland, has recently had its bath and shower room upgraded with MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME (MTX).

R.G. Whyte Building Solutions Ltd used MTX for the panelling and mouldings, creating a sleek, elegant bath and shower room.

MTX boasts outstanding durability and dimensional stability and is suitable for applications once limited to products such as concrete, plastics or metals.

This lightweight, sustainable panel is guaranteed for up to 50 years above ground and provides architects and designers with unlimited design flexibility and creativity. It’s particularly beneficial in indoor areas where humidity is an issue.

“One of the best features of MTX is that it’s moisture resistant.” Robert Whyte, Director of RGW Building Solutions Ltd. “Teenagers use this bath and shower room so you can image how much water goes everywhere! However, thanks to the smooth, polished exterior finish of MTX the water just slides off the panels as if it’s sliding off glass.”

MTX has a naturally altered chemical structure, thanks to the proprietary acetylation treatment process used to treat the wood elements. This process greatly reduces the ability of the panels to absorb water and creates a panel with outstanding durability and stability.

“I know a few people in the area who have used the product before, one of them built a farm gate using MTX and it still looks great after a couple of years. We feel confident hearing about these projects because it assures us that the finished product is going to last.”

MTX can be used in applications where normal medium density fibreboards cannot, thanks to a combination of acetylated wood fibre and MEDITE MDF manufacturing technology. It is still able to retain all the design, fixing, and machining flexibility of regular MDF.

“The biggest challenge we had was moulding the panels to match the shape of the bathroom. It’s a quirky shape so we had to make sure that the panels fitted well. We received a lot of technical support from Clive McKenzie, Technical Sales Manager at MEDITE SMARTPLY, all undercoats and topcoats were specified by MEDITE SMARTPLY as well, and this allowed us to complete the project successfully. All in all, the bathroom took around three weeks to complete.”

Robert concluded: “It’s an excellent product to work with. We are also using MTX in the dining room, and I am even using it for my own bathroom – it’s all good!”
