SintLucas Students Transform Garden for Vitalis Brunswijck Care Complex with MEDITE SMARTPLY
For the second consecutive year, MEDITE SMARTPLY, a leading sustainable manufacturer of wood-based panel products, has initiated a collaboration with the creative vocational school SintLucas. This new batch of students will have several months to work on their own local MEDITE Makes It Real project. In April 2024, the challenge began to create something from MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME (MTX) with and for the residents of the Vitalis Brunswijck care complex that will entertain, delight, and/or inspire them daily.
Goal Of The Project
SintLucas is a renowned educational institution based in Eindhoven and Boxtel, focusing on the creative sector and preparing students for various professions, ranging from interior design to photography and ceramics styling. In collaboration with MEDITE SMARTPLY, students will develop an outdoor object made from MTX for the garden of the Vitalis Brunswijck care complex.
MTX was chosen for this project due to its exceptional durability and moisture resistance, making it one of the few wood panels that is suitable for outdoor use. The lightweight and durable material is guaranteed to last at least 50 years above ground and 25 years underground. By working with MTX, students gain experience in future-proof design and learn the importance of using wood in sustainable designs.
Anco Salari, the teacher supervising the project at SintLucas, said: “We like to be practice-oriented in the assignments we give our students and want them to think about future sustainability. Therefore, the collaboration with MEDITE SMARTPLY aligns perfectly. The students can become acquainted with wood-based panel products while working on a creative project with local impact.”
Vitalis Brunswijck Care Complex
At Vitalis Brunswijck in Eindhoven, people can come for rehabilitation and long-term nursing care. The residents derive (living) pleasure and satisfaction from daily activities such as painting and ceramics, as well as performances on the communal square, looking at art, and strolling through the garden. Currently, the communal garden consists of paved paths, benches, plants, trees, and an aviary. There is still room, both literally and figuratively, for creations that enhance the residents’ living enjoyment. The residents are involved in the design process and visit the students during the project to provide feedback.
Wendy van Zon, Coordinator of Art & Culture at Vitalis, said: “We are very pleased with the collaboration with the SintLucas students and MEDITE SMARTPLY. The fact that this project is organized both for and with our residents is very important to us. We are very curious about the creative objects that will brighten up our garden this summer.”
MEDITE Makes It Real
The MEDITE Makes It Real campaign challenges creators to work with MEDITE’s wood-based panel products. To drive new growth opportunities and strengthen the MEDITE brand in the Netherlands, the MEDITE Dealer Network in the Netherlands was created earlier this year with Baars en Bloemhoff BV, Blok Plaatmateriaal, Leeuwerik Plaat BV, RET Bouwproducten and Van Drimmelen Toelevering BV. Leeuwerik Plaat BV supplied the SintLucas students with the required panel material for this project.

Project Timeline
The thirteen SintLucas students will work on their object from April to June 2024. At the end of the project, the students will present their designs during a final presentation. Subsequently, all designs will be exhibited at Vitalis Brunswijck in Eindhoven and they will placed permanently in the garden for the residents to enjoy.
The creative process of the students will be documented and shared by MEDITE SMARTPLY to inspire others and encourage them to share their own creations on the MEDITE Makes It Real platform.
