Senior Health & Safety Officer

  • Standort: SMARTPLY, Waterford, Ireland

Responsible for leading and delivering all activity in relation to Health & Safety in the SMARTPLY site this role will lead the development and progress of a positive Health and Safety culture on site, including compliance with standards, policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with all department to build positive safety relationships and safety cultures.
  • Represent the Company during outside Agency Audits/Inspections and liaise as required with the Health & Safety Authority.
  • Coordinate and maintain Organisational Management Systems (ISO 45001) as part of the IMS, to ensure the effective management of Health and Safety matters.
  • Plan, manage and complete of the Health and Safety audits and inspections in compliance with the audit plan.
  • Attend Daily Operations Meeting to report on safety and the status of safety actions/audits
  • Based on a rota complete daily safety walk with supervisors and operatives.
  • Produce weekly and monthly reports on safety performance in the business.
  • Support the PPE Tendering process for specification review.
  • Monitoring and Measuring HSE objectives and targets in-line with internal metrics.
  • Champion to improve the health and safety culture through training and awareness campaigns
  • Drive the management of the risk assessment program to ensure that all risk assessments, method statements and COSHH assessments are completed in compliance with consultation and participation requirements.
  • Participate in the company internal auditing programme, ensuring compliance with ISO45001:2018, Complete internal audits against the health and safety compliance obligations of the organisation.
  • Develop, maintain and drive safety observation and near miss reporting processes, ensuring that any concerns raised are documented, and relevant actions taken, with results of those actions reported back to those that raised the concern.
  • Ensure corrective actions from internal audits are raised, actioned and closed out as per the corrective actions process.
  • Ensure that existing and incoming legislation and regulations on health and safety are documented on a compliance register, ensure that actions to ensure legal compliance are documented as part of our management system and that records demonstrating legal compliance are maintained as controlled documented information.
  • Ensure all reports as required by the legislation of missed time accidents/dangerous occurrences are completed and informed to the Health and Safety Authority within the required period and records of such are maintained as documented information.
  • Complete thorough investigation, root cause analysis and corrective actions for all significant incidents, reportable accidents, dangerous occurrences and major property damage.
  • Maintain and make available health and safety performance data, utilise this data to establish cross departmental targets, and objectives.
  • Utilise gathered safety data to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Manage an annual safety communication plan, to include internal safety communications (Safety meetings, toolbox talks, safety messaging in notices on screens) safety messaging to subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Organise and chair health and safety meetings at least once per month, results of meetings are issued to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Manage the emergency preparedness and response process in consultation with the operations teams using a combination of training and regular drills.
  • Work with teams to ensure new employee, visitor and contractor safety induction compliance.
  • Collaborate with all teams to ensure that health and safety policies, systems and procedures are embedded in the organisation.
  • Support Capital projects team on the review of subcontractor health and safety
  • Monitor contractor safety performance and provide feedback to key stakeholders
  • Support in the planning, execution and review of annual shut down acting in the PSCS role on behalf of the company
  • Travel may be required on occasions to attend course/conferences
  • Other Duties as required as may be assigned from time to time

Qualifications & Experience required:

  • BSc in Occupational Safety & Health and welfare or other Recognised Safety qualification
  • At least 5 years of experience in Occupational Safety & Health and welfare
  • Thorough knowledge of current environmental, health and safety legislation
  • Experience in dealing with Regulatory Bodies
  • Internal Auditing Experience would be beneficial
  • Experience with ISO 45001 Standards.

  • Strong communication & computer skills MS Office Suite and H&S/Quality Management Software experience desirable
