Mezzanine floors are a great way to maximise used space, particularly in industrial environments, which typically have high ceilings. Warehouses and distribution centres often contain a mezzanine for extra storage or office space. They are also popular in retail where they create extra floor space for selling stock or providing additional storage at the back of the shop.
Mezzanines are often constructed using steel, while the decking can range from composite concrete to particle board. Often, 38mm P5 Chipboard is specified for mezzanines because of its structural strength and moisture resistant properties. However, at MEDITE SMARTPLY, we have an even better solution.

SMARTPLY STRONGDECK is a high strength OSB/4 panel, which makes it stronger than P5 Chipboard. To create precision strand orientation, a moisture resistant and no added formaldehyde resin is added to bond wood strands using ContiRoll® technology.
Developed for heavy duty loadbearing applications in humid conditions (Service class 1 and 2), SMARTPLY STRONGDECK is primarily used for mezzanine flooring applications. It is also suitable for industrial shelving. In warehouses, for example, STRONGDECK’s robust strength makes it ideal for heavy duty shelving – perfect for supporting heavier, bulky items.
At 30mm, SMARTPLY STRONGDECK is 17% lighter and thinner compared to standard 38mm P5 Chipboard. This makes it easier to handle and transport. Its tongue and groove edging on the long sides of the panel, makes it easier to lay and therefore quicker to install.
As well as being made with no added formaldehyde, SMARTPLY STRONGDECK is manufactured from wood from FSC sustainably managed forests – just like the rest of the SMARTPLY range. SMARTPLY OSB is manufactured using fast-growing pine and spruce, which includes the tops of the trees that are not used to make any other wood-based product. As we know the composition of our panels, we are confident of its sustainable credentials, whereas other wood-based products such as chipboard may contain foreign materials in its make up.
