Health and Wellbeing

We spend around 90 percent of our lives indoors; more than enough time for each and every building we encounter over our lifetime to have a tangible impact on our quality of life.

Across the world, building regulations and ratings systems have evolved to reflect this, helping us to track our progress, maintain standards and incentivise more designers and developers to build greener, healthier spaces.

But it’s not just our thinking that’s evolved when it comes to wellbeing; technology has as well. The products we can now develop have enabled us to use the power of buildings to keep our bodies healthy, our minds calm, and even make our work more efficient—and do it all sustainably.

Indoor Air Quality

With today’s society being more aware of health and the impact of our surrounding environment than ever, residential interior designers and home-improvers—now that they have more time than ever to work on the house—are looking for ways to create beautiful new spaces at home that are safer and healthier.

Being environmentally aware doesn’t just mean caring about the outside environment; it also means being conscious of the environments we create indoors. Advances in technology has led to the production of a wealth of innovative new products to help sustain the creation of safer, healthy environments for people at home and at work every day, while preserving natural environments outside.

Formaldehyde and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)

Since 2001, MEDITE SMARTPLY has always manufactured its entire SMARTPLY OSB range with absolutely no added formaldehyde as standard, alongside technically specialised no added formaldehyde MEDITE MDF panel solutions.

As we become increasingly aware of the affect our indoor environments have on our health wellbeing, formaldehyde emissions standards are coming under closer scrutiny.

Formaldehyde is a substance that occurs naturally in trees and therefore is present in all wood-based products in very small safe amounts, that may be off-gassed or emitted over time. Issues can arise, however, when formaldehyde-based resins are added during the manufacturing process of composite wood panels.

Striving to mitigate any risk associated with high formaldehyde levels, MEDITE SMARTPLY ensure that both of its award-winning product ranges not only meet but exceed all low formaldehyde emissions standards.

By consistently exceeding standards, MEDITE SMARTPLY sets a new precedent for the timber industry that encourages the innovation of construction products that put the health and wellbeing of both contractors and end users first.

All our OSB products are manufactured with no added formaldehyde as standard. This means that when working closely with our products, contractors can rest assured that each panel contains only the naturally occurring formaldehyde found in wood and the natural environment. This is part of our aim to better enable the continued conscious creation of safe, healthy indoor environments for building occupants.

When It comes to our MDF, all of our products meet the stringent CARB 2 standard for formaldehyde emissions. We also offer a range of no added formaldehyde products, for extra sensitive applications.
