The perfect double act: MTX and MR provide uplift to a mansion in Cambridgeshire

“MEDITE is the better of the panels, we’ve tried other brands and we prefer using MEDITE so much more.” – Andy Tweed, Director, High End Joinery.

High End Joinery have found the perfect duo for a huge renovation of a private residence in Cambridgeshire – MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME (MTX) and MEDITE MR.

The company (also based in Cambridgeshire), will be creating decorative external features for the property including fascias out of MTX, and fitted furniture inside the mansion using MR.

Andy Tweed, the director of High End Joinery said: “It’s a big mansion, we’re also working on a big orangery on the property. We’re making the external features out of MTX because the client didn’t want any of the joints like you get in stone. In addition to creating elegant fascias out of MTX, we’re making a big coping piece and it’s all being painted to look like stone. We’re also doing everything inside, the dressing room, wardrobes – so we have lots to do!”

Working with MEDITE TRICOYA EXTREME (MTX)

MTX is a durable, innovative construction panel with outstanding durability and dimensional stability. This adaptability allows it to be used in applications once limited to products such as concrete, plastics or metals.

“I previously used it for the panels on external doors, so we know how good it is. I then suggested we use it to create the external fascias and coping instead of stone which we would then paint it to look exactly like stone. We used a company called Stone Looks, to get a direct match for the paint. It’s incredible, it looks and feels the same as stone.”

The combination of acetylated wood fibre with the manufacturing technology of MEDITE MDF, means MTX can be used in applications where normal MDF panels cannot. One of the biggest benefits of MTX is that it maintains all the design, fixing, and machining flexibility of medium density fibreboards (MDF).

“MTX gives you real peace of mind, you don’t have to worry about it. It’s an extremely stable product.”

MTX is resistant to rot and fungal decay, which makes it an ideal product for external applications. Guaranteed for 50 years above ground and 25 years in ground, these ground-breaking panels allow for great design flexibility and endless opportunities for creativity.

“Before we used MTX we used birch plywood and other similar wood products, but obviously you can’t find birch plywood these days, so we’ll be using more MTX. My spray man loves it because the finish is remarkable – the surface is shiny and comes out like glass when you spray it!”

Making an impression with MEDITE MR

As well as MTX, Andy is using MR to make bespoke furniture for the property. “We’re using MR for the fitted furniture, such as the wardrobes and other fitted furniture in the dressing room, and it will all be spray finished. We’ve just made a set of wardrobes, and we’re getting ready to make the other furnishings.”

MEDITE MR is typically used for kitchen and bathroom furniture, as well as window and skirting boards and architectural mouldings because of its moisture resistant properties. The panel is designed for use in humid conditions and manufactured in accordance with MDF.H (Option 1) as defined in EN 622-5. So why did Andy choose MR for this project?

“It’s also a denser board to standard MDF so when you sand and you paint the edges, you get a better finish on the edges,” he explains. “Also, if you route into it, you get a better overall finish as well.”

The project is underway is expected to be completed late summer 2023.

Andy concludes: “MEDITE is the better of the panels, we’ve tried other brands and we prefer using MEDITE so much more.”
