The Challenge

Our Solution
We provided SMARTPLY AIRTIGHT, the world’s first certified airtight OSB panel for the structural inner sheathing in timber frame wall and ceiling assemblies. We also supplied SMARTPLY SURE STEP DB, a durable tongue-and-groove OSB/3 panel, provided an effective solution for floor decking - both tested and certified by the Passive house Institute (PHI).
The Outcome
The project successfully delivered 200 Passivhaus homes, achieving exceptional airtightness levels of 0.6 ACH, while supporting the developer in their mission to create sustainable, low-energy housing.
Luxury Home Acoustic Project
The Challenge
Birch Construction Surrey is no stranger to the ever-evolving aspects of developing high-quality homes. They were approached to work on a five-bedroom luxury home in Warlingham, Surrey, spanning approximately 7,000 square feet. For this project, the team sought a solution that would not only deliver high-quality performance but also meet the acoustic performance requirements of Building Regulations Part E and align with their environmental values.
Our Solution
We supplied the team with SMARTPLY MAX DB panels for the flooring system. SMARTPLY MAX DB is a high-performance OSB/3 panel designed specifically for enhanced acoustic performance in internal flooring applications. It has been tested by a UKAS-accredited laboratory to achieve an airborne sound insulation rating of 40dB, meeting the internal floor requirements of the Building Regulations Part E in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The Outcome
The strength, durability, and moisture-resistant properties of the board made it an ideal fit for the project, allowing joints to be set at 600mm centres. SMARTPLY MAX DB was also lighter than traditional 22mm chipboard, improving ease of handling on site, while ongoing technical support from the SMARTPLY team ensured smooth installation throughout.
Secure, Smarter Site Hoarding
The Challenge
Titan Security Fencing was asked by Lancashire and Cumbria Demolition Contractors to install a hoarding around a site in the heart of Manchester where it was about to demolish an old storage warehouse in preparation for a new housing development. The hoarding was needed to protect the public from the works on site and to prevent unauthorised site access.
Our Solution
Having previously worked with SMARTPLY SITEPROTECT, Titan Security Fencing upgraded to SITEPROTECT PLUS on this project. Built on the same OSB/3 substrate but primed on both sides rather than just one, it enabled full branding to the housebuilder’s colours, enhancing both the visual impact and overall quality of the development.
The Outcome
The use of pre-primed SITEPROTECT streamlined installation by eliminating the need for on-site preparation, allowing hoarding to be deployed directly to site with a high-quality finish. This reduced installation time and labour costs, enabling faster project start times and delivering efficiencies for both the contractor and client.
