Sustainable Forestry

MEDITE SMARTPLY is part of Coillte, a sustainable and innovative Irish forestry company, which is FSC certified. This means each of our products is responsibly manufactured from a certified supply from its sustainably managed forests. In turn, this makes us one of the only vertically integrated panel manufacturers in the industry, as we have control and ownership of our own timber-sourcing supply chain from sapling planting through to log harvesting.

With responsible management, timber is a 100% renewable natural resource. The wood used in our high-performance OSB and MDF panels is small-diameter wood from fast-growing species such as spruce and pine along with wood that is selectively removed for forest thinning. The timber used to make our products is carefully harvested to preserve the forest’s biodiversity, productivity and ecological processes. An additional benefit of sustainable forestry management in this scale is its support of carbon sequestration, which involves the capture and storage of carbon dioxide, removing it from the atmosphere.

Forestry certification means that the environmental and social effects of a wood producer’s operations have been independently verified.

MEDITE SMARTPLY timber construction panels’ FSC® certification is an internationally recognised standard that assures buyers of wood-based products that the timber used originates from environmentally and socially responsible forestry management.

MEDITE SMARTPLY has received the FSC’s chain of custody certification, covering not only the supply of raw materials but also its manufacturing and distribution processes. This certification provides a guarantee to consumers that the product not only comes from a well-managed forest but has passed through a secure, sustainable channel from its origin in the forest right through to the time it is installed by the end-user. Only products from FSC-certified forests can be labelled with the ‘tick and tree’ logo.

PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) certification is available for SMARTPLY products subject to conditions, available upon request.
