It’s the most wonderful time of the year at The Building Centre, Fitzrovia, London.
Just for Christmas, a circular Tin Chapel and a social seating bench have been created by Roz Barr Architects, using SMARTPLY OSB in the courtyard in front of The Building Centre.

With responsible management, timber is a 100% renewable natural resource. However, a recent study by the WWF found that we may have only a decade of timber left, due to huge levels of unsustainable deforestation.
This is one of the reasons why some responsible developers are demanding that their buildings are designed and built to meet the requirements of environmental assessment certification schemes such as BREEAM.

The Margaret Baxter Wildlife Garden at the Lakeside School in Derbyshire was designed and built by GFB and its specialist partners as part of an education and design program to encourage children’s learning of the natural world. Alongside a wildflower meadow and wetland habitat, a bespoke bird hide and hedgehog-friendly fencing with tailor-made wildlife cut outs were built. Both extensively feature MEDITE® TRICOYA® EXTREME (MTX), and MEDITE PREMIER FR MDF.

The measurement of how sustainable a building project is shouldn’t necessarily be limited to the end build. The construction process itself should also be open to scrutiny with regards to its environmental credentials.
With the site hoarding often regarded only as a disposable commodity, the quality and origin of the materials used in their construction are frequently overlooked. Yet, in order to achieve a fully sustainable building project, it’s just as important to consider the provenance of the materials used for your site hoardings as it is for your final building design.

An innovative project to help combat London’s housing crisis has been unveiled from Lowe Guardians and Studio Bark architects. Modular SHEDs (taken from the word SHarED), which are manufactured offsite and can be installed in the space of a day, allow for self-contained living within vacant buildings such as disused warehouses or office spaces.
